Commentary on Politics and Entertainment

Monday, October 25

In the CNN/Gallop/USA Today poll, Fifty-one percent of likely voters said they would back Bush, and 46 percent expressed support for Kerry. The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points, meaning the true leader was unclear. However, there is one thing all these polls neglect to mention, the youth vote or the college vote. College students and young people generally don't have a permanent address or phone lines, relying on cell phones, which are never included in surveys. I would love to see a national survey that incorporates this important demographic. The pollsters have gotten away with this omission in the passed because of low young voter turnout, something that will likely not be the case this year. However, with a week to go, I am not holding my breath the pollsters will figure it out.
